Coquet Lodge,

BALVICAR, Isle of Seil
4 bedrooms
2 bathrooms
8 guests

Description

Coquet Lodge is situated on glorious Seil Island and sleeps a total of 8 adults, it also has a permanent children cot for an under 2 yr old. The property has a country, cosy feel and is a special family home for the owners, it is receiving improvements all the time. Rooms are bright and airy and there is a brand new kitchen and dining area, as well as a comfortable living room with smart TV. The kitchen has breathtaking views over the sea and the boats in the bay, and the front garden falls right down to the waterside. Guests can enjoy use of the outdoor BBQ (available by request from September-April) and a cosy open fire in the sitting room for the winter months.
There are two king sized bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room. A further room with 2 single beds where the cot can also be found, and two small doubles in the last twin bedroom. There are two bathrooms in the property, one full bathroom upstairs and shower room downstairs, there is also an additional downstairs loo and a small boot room/ utility room with a washer/ dryer. We would accept one well behaved dog on request but we ask owners to follow basic dog owner rules such as keeping the dog downstairs, off the furniture, towel drying before letting it in the house if wet and disposing of dog poo, these rules are so the property remains comfortable and clean for other guests to enjoy.
A highchair is also available on request.

A key box is provided for easy access to obtain the keys and all the local amenities can be found in the immediate area. Balvicar has a super local shop within walking distance of the property which provides meat, wine, veg etc and the well know names of Tesco, M&S, Lidl and Aldi can all be found in Oban which is approximately 30 minutes away. There are 2 local pubs each 3 miles away, and the village of Balvicar also offers wonderful Seafood platters on demand and home made breads usually available for a Sunday collection. With the pay as you play Balvicar Golf Course on the door step, and the ferry to Easdale and Luing only a few miles away this really is a fun escape for all the family!

Three things to note:
1. Children do need to be watched as the garden leads directly down to the water, and also on the stairs as you will see in the photos it’s an open staircase.
2. Due to Seil Island being a slate island the beach is slate and mud, not sand so shoes are recommended for getting in and out of the water.
3. An additional travel cot can be provided but you’d need to bring bedding.

Please note that check in to this property is from 430pm and check out is by 930am.

Location

The Isle of Seil lies some 12 miles south of Oban.

Seil is separated from the mainland only by the thinnest of sea channels which is spanned by the elegant 18th century humpback Clachan Bridge, popularly known as the 'Bridge over the Atlantic'.

The island's main village, Ellenabeich, comprises neat white terraces of workers cottages crouching below black cliffs on the westernmost tip of the island. Confusingly, the village is often referred to by the same name as the nearby island of Easdale, since they formed an interdependent community based exclusively around the slate quarrying industry. Ellenabeich has featured in a number of TV and films including Para Handy and Ring of Bright Water. The village's main attractions are the gardens of An Cala with its glorious azaleas and Japanese flowering cherries in early summer and the Scottish Slate Islands' Heritage Centre which is housed in one of the little white cottages.

Seil also boasts a 9-hole golf course and a popular yacht anchorage at Phuilladobhrain, Balvicar on the island's east coast.

An amazing week in a stunning location. The house is meticulously clean, and every small detail has been taken care of, right down to the fire in the lounge being ready to be lit. You do need your own transport but there are many beautiful walks close by, and local restaurants are highly recommended. Thank you for everything, we would like to return in a different season, autumn’s palette was beautiful but we would like to appreciate the surroundings in the summer.

Nice spot if the weather is great which luckily it was. House is well equipped with a fantastic view. Wouldn’t recommend for families with young children due to the drop in the front garden.

“Very comfortable and tastefully presented house with everything you need. Location is beautiful with a stunning view of the Bay. We had a Canadian canoe and it was pretty straightforward to get the canoe from the car to the water's edge. Highlight was paddling to Tigh an Truish pub at Clachan Seil. Would recommend water shoes if you are accessing the water from the shore below the house. Lots to do and see in the area.”
