Home | Uncategorised | Ah, so you’ve come to Bonnie Scotland… Here’s where we recommend in Inverness-shire!

There is so much to do around us, we can’t even begin to put it all down on here, but lets start with the nearby places.

For the Foodies

We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to independent cafe’s, restaurants and food hot spots, but here are some of our tried and tested favourites around the local area or within a short drive. On your doorstep in Drumnadrochit, we have our neighbours literally across the road from Crossroads Cottage at The Loch Ness Inn, for something close to home and with a cosy atmosphere. Fiddlers is our local for a wee pint and we love The Ness Deli for a daytime pitstop and coffee.
If you’re looking for something a little more decadent, you may need to travel a little further to find Loch Ness Country House or The Lovat in Fort Augustus.

The village of Drum also has a whole host of takeaway options when you’re just not up for taking a trip and want to hunker down with a takeout.

Exploring around Loch Ness

The Falls of Foyer are at the other side of Loch Ness and are utterly stunning. It’s a steep little walk down the wooded cliffs to see the falls, so wear decent footwear. Catch a cup of coffee at the charming little Waterfall Café at the top.

If you are travelling with your four legged friend, you’re in the right place. We have so many walks around here, we can’t possibly list them all, but we do recommend using the Walk Highlands website which gives detailed and accurate info on the most suitable walk for you.

Fort Augustus is one of Scotland’s busiest little bolt holes in Summer Months. It’s an absolute must if you’re doing a trip around Loch Ness and is home to so many fabulous little restaurants and cafes. We particularly recommend The Bothy Restaurant & Bar and Beaufort House Pizza. Watch the boats coming through the canal locks before their journey down the Caledonian Canal.

No trip to Loch Ness is complete without a cruise with our neighbours, Jacobite Loch Ness Tours! Literally just a 10 minute drive from Drumnadrochit and a guest favourite. Please do let us know if you see Nessie…

The well known Urquhart Castle sits on the West side of the Loch and is an ever popular tourist spot. A right of passage, if you will. It’s about a 6 (yes 6) minute drive from Drumnadrochit and is one of Scotlands top visitor attractions.

We highly recommend a visit to the newly reopened Boleskine House on the opposite side of the Loch. Boleskine House stands as a beacon of local heritage. The estate’s story weaves together echoes of early modern Highland history, including tales surrounding the Jacobite rebellion and its legends of Highland resistance and resilience. The house and grounds hold a tangible connection to the region’s rich past and offer a space to delve into the area’s historic and cultural significance.

A little further North, you’ll find perhaps one of the prettiest castles in Europe. Dunrobin is around an hour and a bit drive from our doorstep. Its epic, even in the winter months. Don’t miss the falconry experience on offer (bring cash as he can only accept cash payments).
Holding a very special place in my heart, is Inverness Cathedral. An incredibly special building with bags of history. The internal building is mesmerising and there’s a lovely little cafe, just outside (Cafe Ness). I recently tied the not here and it’s said to be where true love happens- I’ll let you know! ps.bring some pennies to drop into the donations box. Churches in Scotland’s are really struggling just now!
Step back in time when you visit Culloden Battlefield. Going back almost 300 years, Culloden was the last pitched battle on British soil. The team at Culloden really know their stuff. It’s a history buffs delight and absolutely worth a trip. You can’t visit Scotland without gaining a little more history knowledge…right?!

Executive Hire and Tours

We’re lucky enough to have some fantastic tour facilitators in the Highlands and if you’re staying in Inverness-shire, we highly recommend our friends at RJM Private Tours who will offer a bespoke and highly memorable experience.
If you can’t get a spot with RJM there are lots of other options, including Just Scotland Tours, Highlander Private Tours and Highland Experience. If you’re looking to go to a specific area or see a specific site, let us know and we can happily direct you to the tours we think would be the best fit. If a walking tour is more your thing, look no further than Hill Walk Tours.

Experiences

We all know that everyone wants to see a Highland Coo on their Scotland trip and now you can also feed some with our neighbours at Quila Cridhe. There are lots of different experiences available and try and ensure you book before visiting to avoid disappointment, particularly in the Summer months.
The Food at Quila Cridhe is great too, so be sure to squeeze in a little lunch!

Distilleries are our bread and butter here in Scotland and we now do Gin, just as well as we do Whisky. On the foot of Loch Ness and right next door to us here in Drum is Scotland’s Smallest Distillery called Great Glen Distillery. If you’re more of a whisky connoisseur we highly recommend the 120+ year old Tomatin distillery for a tour and a tour to further your never ending knowledge on one of our biggest exports!

Trust us when we say that no one knows Scotland and all its surroundings quite as well as us. These are just a handful of our recommendations and you’ll find even more when you’re in the property, but if you’re looking for something more specific please let us know. You can also visit the Loch Ness Travel Hub Guaranteed, we can point you in the right direction.
