Description

The bones of this cottage are classically Scottish. Joyce Campbell, our lovely owner, has renovated this gorgeous wee home to encapsulate the traditional Scottish feel which we know our guests can't get enough of. Dating back to the early 1800's, Joyce has kept the essential highland feel of this croft in play, while completely rebuilding and revamping this croft. Exposed brick work, beautiful original beams, a wood burning stove and fluffy sheepskin throws are just some of the features that make this property truly feel like you've landed in the Highlands. Joyce, an award winning shepherdess has used wool from her own sheep to create the soft furnishings in this home. They can be found on the window blinds, curtains, blankets and beyond. You can't get much more local and sustainable.

The unique spiral staircase leads upstairs to a mezzanine area where our lucky guests can find a wee dram or two (on the house) in a snug a cosy area, thanks to the below log burner pumping some warm air up! All of the bedrooms and bathrooms can be found on the ground level, making it accessible to all. There's one classic twin room with well sized single beds with an en-suite shower room. The double bedroom also has an en-suite with a bath and toilet. Joyce leaves some lovely Highland Soap company products in all the bathrooms, but you're also welcome to bring your own.

The property itself is surrounded by fields, all owned and managed by Joyce and Ian, usually filled with sheep or cattle. Enjoy a view out of every window, particularly the double bedroom which looks straight onto the immediate Armadale Bay and beach- yes, it's walking distance!

Guests will want for nothing while staying in this North of Scotland home with all the usual amenities provided and more. Fresh linens and towels will all be waiting for guests, along with some special goodies our generous owner leaves for our friendly guests.

Very well behaved dogs can be welcome on request and with prior agreement for a small additional cleaning fee of £30. Dogs must be impeccably behaved around livestock. With the gates shut, this home creates a secure garden.

Location

The NC500 is so much more than just a road trip. This location gives all year round. The nearest village is Bettyhill, where you'll find the a small shop with essential items. The Store (bar and cafe) offers a bit of everything, A cafe by day, a bar by night and bits and bobs to buy from the shop too.
The nearby Flow Country is bursting with an array of wildlife and unique species of birds. The newly announced and first UNESCO peatland site has lessons to teach on the importance from the most intact and extensive blanket bog system in the world.

Stretching across Caithness and Sutherland in the far north of Scotland the vast expanse of blanket bog comprises a complex set of interlinked pool systems and micro features that not only host an eye-catching flora and fauna but also play a vital role in our defence against the effects of climate change.

From above the land is a mottled pattern of peat and pools, their colours shifting like an opal. But look a little closer and you’ll find a world of amazing plants, rare birds, and a place to be inspired by peace and space.

Castle Mey, Smoo Cave, Melvich Bay and Dunrobin Castle are all within driving distance while staying at the cottage and offer a great day trip without trekking miles from your base!
